The Sense of Taste


INFORMATION:
Taste is the sensation when a substance go into the mouth. The receptors on taste buds are on the tongue, palate and epiglottis. The receptors on the tongue are inside of the papillaes. In the tongue there are between 2000 and 5000 taste buds. The gustatory cortex receives the sense of taste.
The are five diferent tastes: Sweet, Sour, Salti, Bitter and Umami.




Sweet: Sweet is a basic taste perceived with the sugar, like the frutose, glucose and sucrose.
The are other sweet subtance, like aldehydes, ketones and the sugar alcohols.

Salty: Salty is a taste produce by the presence of sodium ions (salt). Other ions also taste salty like the lithium, potaggium, rubidium and cesium.

Bitter: Bitter is the most sensitive of the tastes. The bitter foods include coffoe, cocoa, olives, beer, tonic water, bitter gourd.....
Many people perceive this sensation disagreeable. Bitter is the most sense taste interest to those who study evolution.

Sour: Sour is the taste that detectes acidity. The sour of subtance is relative to acid. The most common food group that contains this natural sour food are the fruit like the lemon, grape, orange, tamarind and sometimes the melon and another fruit.

Umami or Savori: Umami or Savori is an appetitive taste.It can be taste in cheese, soy sauce and the food that contains monosodium glutamate.
