The sense of smell:

ITS IMPORTANCE:

Through the sense of smell we perceive the smells that help us identify the bodies, objects and substances around us. The nose is the organ through which all the smells that we feel penetrate.

PARTS OF THE SENSE:

This are the parts of the sense of smell: frontal sinus, nasal bone, caltilage, nasal cavity, tonsil, sphenoidal sinus and the olfactory bulb.

HOW WE PERCEIVE THE ODOR?

The odor molecules enter through the nostrils. Then, the receptor cells at the end of the nasal cavity transmit impulses to the olfactory bulb. This bulb is an area within the brain that participates in the perception of odors and sends signals to the brain.

THE DIFERENCE BETWEEN ANIMALS AND US:

In man, the sense of smell is less developed than in many animals, perhaps because unlike them, does not depend on him to find food, find a partner or protect themselves from the enemy.
A person can distinguish between two thousand and four thousand different smells. However, its sense of smell is not as powerful as that of other mammal species.

WHY DO WE SNEEZE?

The tingling sensation in the nose that can not be repressed by anything in the world always ends in sneezing.

Despite being very common, science still does not know why it occurs. Although they do have some ideas about it. That it is a reflex act is the first hypothesis but, at the same time, it can have conscious control and we could manage to repress it.

WHY DO WE CLOSE OUR EYES TO SNEEZE?

Surely also many of you have tried to sneeze and keep your eyes open and it never worked (yes, me too).

But why does this happen? Being able to control all the parts of our body, every minimum movement and mechanism, we can not sneeze without closing our eyes. In part it's like a challenge.

Well, the explanation is quite simple. The fact that our eyes close when we sneeze is a reflection, a reflection of protection. Our body protects us against the infections that we could acquire from sneezing with our eyes open.

The current of air that leaves our lungs and reaches the nose travels at high speed. If part of that air that travels quickly escape to our eyeballs could cause serious damage to them.

Unlike the popular belief that if we keep our eyes open our eyes will fly, the only thing that could happen is that some of that air will reach our eyes and infect them with some bacteria.

ARE THERE PEOPLE WHO CAN SNEEZE AND NOT CLOSE THEIR EYES?

They are very few people, really few. The people who can do this are because they have lost this reflex because of a failure in the nerves that connect the eyelids with the brain.

                                   THE END

And this has been everything, I hope you enjoyed it and if it has been like that, put it in the comments.
