Hydroelectricity is the term referring to electricity generated by hydropower; the production of electrical power through the use of   the gravitational force of falling or flowing water. Hydroelectric energy is made by moving water.

 Hydroelectric energy has been in use for thousands of years.Thousands of years ago the Greeks used water wheels, which picked up water in buckets around a wheel. The water's weight caused the wheel to turn, converting kinetic energy into mechanical energy for grinding grain and pumping water.

 Hydroelectric power generates about 10% of the energy.

     A small or micro-hydroelectric power system can produce                enough electricity for a home, farm, or ranch. Moving water

    is a powerful entity responsible for lighting entire cities.

               So just how do we get electricity from water?

 Actually, hydroelectric and coal-fired power plants produce electricity in a similar way. In both cases a power source is used to turn a propeller-like piece called a turbine, which then turns a metal shaft in an electric generator, which is the motor that produces electricity.
