THE GAMMA RAYS 

1. What are gamma rays?

      Is a electromagnetic radiation so penetrating,similar length than

      the X rays,this occurs when they disintegrate the nuclei of a radiactive element.The gamma rays are a type of ionizing radiation.

   Who discoved gamma rays ?

 Paul Villard a chemist and a physicist French discovered the gamma reaction in 1900.This reaction was examinated in 1903 by Enest Rutherford who called this reaction "Gamma rays".In 1914 it was observed that the gamma rays were reflected in the glass that showed that it was a electromagnetic reaction.

 Uses of the gamma rays:

Gamma rays are use to disinfect medical equipment.Also to kill off the bacteries or insects in food like meat ,vegetables,eggs and mushroom.The gamma rays are use much in medical uses like: Tomography and Radiation therapy.In addition, we use for some types of cancer treatments.There is a procedure called Gamma Knife surgery that consist of many concentrated rays of gamma rays that go to the carcinogenic cells.We use gamma rays in nuclear medicine too.

There are two types of gamma explosion:long and short.The first it is believed that happens when a giant star dies.The second,with the collision of neutron stars.It have been observed that the long explosions occurs in different galaxy where there are few hearvier that hydrogen and helium.The scientific belive than if occurs one in the Milky Way ,it should be in an area with these caracteristics.

With the help of Swift observer and Russian Konus device installed on a satellite ,astronauts detected a gamma flash,which  lasted more than 2 hours ,and is the longest in the history.
