  THE CIRCULATORY SYSTEM

The circulatory system moves substances around our body. It takes oxygen and nutrients to all parts of the body.

It helps take out waste substances from the body. 

It takes oxygen to the lungs and carbon dioxide and waste substances are eliminated by the urine. 

An adult has 4,5 to 6 liters of blood circulating through their body.

PARTS OF CIRCULATORY SYSTEM

The circulatory system is composed by:

Blood: Is a red liquid that goes all around the body and contains various types of blood cells:           

• Red blood cells:  These cells carry the oxygen that collect in the lung of the air that we breathe, then take heart that pumps the blood and distributed to all parts of the body. 

• White blood cells: These cells protect us from germs (bacteria and viruses...). 

• Platelets:  These cells help to the blood coagulation.

• Plasma:  Is the yellow liquid where are inside the red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets.

Blood vessels: It's a tubes that circulate the blood and there are three kinds: 

• Arteries: Take blood from the heart to the rest of the body.

• Veins: Move the blood since the organs to the heart. 

• Capillaries: It's very thin tubes that connect the arteries with the veins. It's in all organs of the body. 

 

Heart: Is the main organ of the circulatory system that pushes blood around the body.  It's between the two lungs and it receives and pushes out blood continuously.

The heart is divided into four chambers: 2 Ventricles (right and left), 2 Atriums (right and left).
 

When the heart contracts and relaxes makes a sound called "heartbeat".These moves are continuous and involuntary and allow the circulation of the blood. When the heart stops beating then we die. For this reason is the most important organ of the body.

Without other organ we can live but without heart is impossible....
