NEPTUNE
Introduction
·Neptune is the fourth planet in size and the eighth
in terms of distance to the Sun. It is currently the last planet in the solar
system.
The average distance from Neptune to the Sun is 4.5
billion kilometers. Its equatorial
diameter is approximately 49,400 kilometers, or about 3.8 times that of Earth. Its volume is approximately 72 times and it´s
mass 17 times that of Earth or 1.7 times that of water. Neptune
completes its orbit around the Sun every 165 years. A day in Neptune has 16 hours and 6.7 minutes.
Temperature
·The temperature of the surface of Neptune is about
-218 ° C, similar to that of Uranus, which is more than 1,500 kilometers closer
to the sun, therefore, scientists assume that Neptune must have some internal
source of heat.
Atmosphere
The Atmosophere |
The atmosphere consists mainly of hydrogen and helium,
but the presence of more than 3% of methane gives the planet its surprising
blue color.
Neptune's two-thirds interior are composed of a
mixture of molten rock, water, ammonia and liquid methane.
The outer third is a mixture of hot gases composed of
hydrogen, helium, water and methane.
